Today, I played volleyball with my buddy in the gymnasium during the interval and lunchtime. I’m not very good at it, but I was invited, so I tried it. Everyone was very powerful and very good. Once I got used to it, I enjoyed it so much that I sweated. After school, I went to the supermarket with my host mother and roommate. I was very happy to be able to buy sweets such as “Manuka Honey” and “Whittaker’s”, which are famous in New Zealand. The inside of the store was large like a Costco, and the ceiling was very high. It was a very good day.(M.I)

Today, my host father took me to school in the morning.
When I saw my buddy, she gave me a flower bouquet and some key chains. She made them at the mall. I was very happy. I thought I was really lucky to have such a nice buddy.
First, I had social studies and math. Then, I had cooking class. We made bread with cheese inside. The teacher spoke only English, so I was very confused. But my buddy and friends helped me a lot, so I could finish it. It was very delicious.
In the fourth class, we introduced Japanese culture. I wrote my friend’s name on a Japanese paper called “shikishi.” I was a little nervous, but she was very happy. I was glad.
In PE class, we played tag.
On the way home, I saw a green and yellow ambulance. The colors are very different from ambulances in Japan, but people stopped their cars and let the ambulance pass. I thought this was very nice and warm.
After school, I went to Hamilton Lake. The sunset was really beautiful, so I took many pictures. There were many birds around the lake. They were much bigger than birds I have seen before, so I was very surprised.(H.O)

Today, I had a Japanese class. It was a little difficult, but I was happy that I could explain what I wanted to say well. After school, I went to see a pond. It was very beautiful and a lovely place. I had a fun day and had another great experience.(K.N)

I was at school all day today. During recess, I played volleyball with my classmates. Even though we still sometimes have trouble communicating, volleyball is fun because we can connect even without many words. Also, during the fourth period today, I introduced Japanese culture to students in New Zealand who are studying Japanese. I introduced onomatopoeia, and they seemed to really enjoy participating in the quiz, which made me glad I’d prepared for it. I’d be happy if this helped spark their interest in Japan. After school, I went to the supermarket with my host mother and roommate. I was surprised by how much bigger it was compared to supermarkets in Japan. At the supermarket, I bought some souvenirs, like chocolate and Manuka honey. I’m looking forward to sightseeing in Rotorua tomorrow.(M.M)

Today we had a Maori language class, and I thought it was amazing that even though it was a public high school, we were able to study three languages: Japanese, Maori, and English. After school, I went to the supermarket with my roommate and it was very safe.(F.O)

Today, I introduced Japanese culture in class. My group gave a quiz about Japanese onomatopoeia. At first, I was worried that people would not enjoy it, but they enjoyed it, so I was happy. After school, I went for a walk. I walked for almost an hour and enjoyed the atmosphere of New Zealand. I’m looking forward to the Māori concert tomorrow.(R.K)

This morning was very cold. When I arrived at school, my buddy and a Chinese girl were there! She had been studying at this school for four weeks, and today was her last day.
In the first class, math was easy, but the numbers were very large, so it was difficult. In the other classes, I worked on some worksheets, and my buddy helped me when I didn’t understand something.
At the end of the day, the Chinese girl gave me some chocolate, and we said goodbye. I felt very sad because I would miss her.
After school, I walked to a nearby supermarket with my friend to go shopping. I was a little nervous because there were only two of us, but we made it! There were also some students from the same school there. I bought some cookies and chocolate.
Today’s dinner was Chinese-style food, and it was very delicious.(N.I)

After I got home today, I went for about an hour-long walk around the neighborhood with my roommate. We stopped by McDonald’s along the way, bought some fries, and ate them. We walked about 6 kilometers, so it was nice to get some good exercise.(M.S)

Today, I made dinner with my friend. I made udon, and my friend made onigiri. Unlike in Japan, there were no chopsticks, so it was difficult to eat the udon with a fork. I made udon with leek and chicken, and I was surprised because the leeks were much thicker and shorter than the ones in Japan.(T.S)
